Set in PMQ’s courtyard and marketplace, Neon Heroes: Illuminated Dreams features six interactive neon sculptures inspired by superhero imagery. Blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary artistry, the exhibition pays tribute to Hong Kong’s unique cultural identity and vibrant neon heritage.
This captivating show is a collaboration between rising young artist Jerry Loo and his grandfather, Master Wong Kin-wah, Hong Kong’s most senior and revered neon craftsman. Jerry, a 2023 graduate in Illustration and Visual Media from the University of the Arts London, won Tai Kwun’s InnerGlow Searchlight open call and directed Jailhouse Follies, a public artwork that attracted over 90,000 visitors during the 2024 New Year festival. He also led design for Lee Gardens’ Skateboard Festival 2023 and created the animation Detour, showcased at the Annecy International Animation Festival in France.
Master Wong brings 66 years of experience, having crafted thousands of neon signs that define Hong Kong’s neon glory. A living heritage of the city’s luminous art, he continues to inspire new generations through collaborations with artists like Chankalun and Kowloneon, fostering the preservation and evolution of Hong Kong’s neon legacy.
