Neonopolis: A Blade Runner-Inspired Photography Exhibition on Hong Kong
Why We Recommend it
A contemporary social commentary on Hong Kong, Neonopolis is a dystopian, neo-noir photography series inspired by the iconic Blade Runner films.
In this series, UK-born photographer Mark Dobson (b. 1963) revisits his former home, where he lived from 1989 to 1998.
With its changing political landscape and its ever-cinematic sights–people dashing through pouring rain along wet, congested Wan Chai streets and pavements shimmered with iridescent hues, office workers oblivious to their predicament, hypnotised by their smart phones–the city once again enraptured him, two decades later.
The result is Neonopolis–a realm strangely futuristic all the while rooted in the present–inspired by the rain-and-neon-soaked dystopia of the iconic movies.
