Nina Pryde: A Touch of Gold

Why We Recommend it
Nina Pryde’s A Touch of Gold blends classical landscapes with contemporary flair, celebrating Hong Kong heritage in an exhibition before the artist relocates to New Zealand.
Description
Hong Kong artist Nina Pryde’s A Touch of Gold marks her first showcase since Ora-Ora’s announcement of exclusive global representation. The exhibition reunites viewers with Pryde’s striking fusion of photography, ink and collage, where timeless Chinese landscapes are animated by playful and unexpected contemporary details. Her works — ranging from early career milestones to bold new explorations in colour — invite viewers into layered compositions where mist-clad mountains and winding rivers intersect with unexpected modern details.
Paintings such as “A Touch of Gold” radiate warmth and light, embodying Pryde’s unique palette, while pieces like “Transcendence” seamlessly weave abstraction with tradition, creating a meditative space within the familiar terrain of Hong Kong. These highlights exemplify Pryde’s mastery in bridging the discipline of classic ink with inventive interventions that evoke both history and possibility.
Born in Hong Kong in 1945, Pryde trained under legendary ink painter Wucius Wong at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and pursued a masters degree in fine art jointly run by the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and Hong Kong Art School. Her journey from pottery to innovative modern ink has led to works featuring in major collections, like The University Museum and Art Gallery of the University of Hong Kong and in Ora-Ora shows such as the 2019 Taipei Dangdai and Fine Art Asia, Hong Kong in 2014.
With plans to relocate to New Zealand, this exhibition is Pryde’s heartfelt farewell to Hong Kong’s art scene.
