No Hope, No Fear: Artist Zhang Yunyao’s First Solo Exhibit in Hong Kong

Why We Recommend it
This exhibit showcases thirteen paintings and photographs of the emerging Chinese artist who questions the role and nature of images in an increasingly digitalised world.
Description
Zhang’s carefully composed works are bound together in this exhibit along the theme of “No Hope, No Fear” (Nec Spe, Nec Metu) – the motto of Baroque painter Caravaggio.
Zhang uses the themes of “fear” and “hope” as a springboard to contemplate modern visual culture and how the digitalisation of images is effecting how we see.
These ideas are explored in intricate works that also play with symbols in European mythology.
