One Night Only: An Ode to Central Asia

Why We Recommend it

Immerse yourself in a poetic evening of Central Asian art, music and folk dance, featuring live performances and creative insights from the curator and artists.

Description

On 30 January, step into the poetic world of Central Asia with a journey through the solo exhibition Gulnur Mukazhanova: Dowry of the Soul. Led by curator Wang Weiwei, this special evening at CHAT begins with a guided tour of the exhibition, accompanied by the sounds of traditional Central Asian music. Amid a labyrinth of textile artworks, dance artists Pasha Umer and Celine Laurelle Tang perform a Kazakh folk dance through the gallery, bringing the region’s heritage to life through rhythm and movement.

Stay on for a post-performance talk with the curator and artists to delve deeper into the creative process and cultural narratives. The conversation will be conducted in English and Mandarin, with informal Cantonese interpretation. Guests can also enjoy two complimentary drinks and take home a hand-crafted felt souvenir. The event runs from 19:30 to 21:00.

Elsewhere, on 22 January, Weaving Shadows and Light — a dance performance, exhibition tour and conversation also inspired by Gulnur Mukazhanova’s solo exhibition — will take place from 19:30 to 21:00.
