Beyond Plane: A Dialogue Between Painting and Ceramics

Why We Recommend it

Beyond Plane, Within Form highlights a dialogue between painting and ceramics, featuring 11 artists who explore the tactile and chromatic space where these two art forms intersect.

Description

Osage Gallery brings together 11 local artists to Beyond Plane, Within Form, highlighting the creative exchange between painting and ceramics. Anchored by two conceptual pillars Beyond Plane / Within Form and The Language of Clay, the exhibition uses colour, texture and material to examine how these mediums occupy space and overlap as a site of experimentation and subtle tension.

Through creations like “Kowloon Hills 1,” artist and designer Julia Kong draws on the materiality and emotional depth of traditional painting techniques and casein tempera to create a series of works that seamlessly blend ancient craftsmanship with contemporary expression. Ceramist Ng Ka-ho, who holds a master’s degree in mixed media from Kyoto University of Arts and Design, creates works like  “Protean:Turbulence” that explore space and light through clay — connecting inside and outside worlds with delicate, thoughtful forms.

Alongside the exhibition, there are two free workshops on 14 December and require pre-registration. From 13:30 to 14:30, there will be a kintsugi (Japanese art of repairing broken pottery) demonstration led by specialist Sharon Wong. Then, from 15:00 to 16:30, there will be a nerikomi (patterned clay) demonstration led by ceramist Yasmin Pat.
