Our Everyday – Our Borders: Two Asian Artists Explore Imaginary Boundaries
Why We Recommend it
This exhibition at Tai Kwun brings together works by Hong Kong artist Tang Kwok Hin and Japanese artist Motoyuki Shitamichi that reflect on the themes of the everyday and of borders through a series objects, installations, and dialogical practices.
Through various forms of participatory practices and explorations, such as entering into the homes of local volunteers or taking up conversations with secondary-school students, Tang Kwok Hin and Motoyuki Shitamichi reflect on borders beyond the physical.
The two artists point at the everyday imaginary of borders, from urban order, consumerism, social values, family morals, to geopolitics. Their works dig up notions of ‘borders’ arising from human interaction. By performing, displaying, gathering, transforming, transcribing, or documenting these fluid borders, they seek to remind one of the possibilities of life amongst human beings.
