Painting From A Departure Point: Wenzhou Artist Zheng Zhou
Why We Recommend it
The show features a series of works created from 2014, when artist Zheng Zhou’s practices underwent a dramatic transformation.
Having studied printmaking at the Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts (now called the China Academy of Art) in the early 1990s, Zhou moved to Beijing in 2013, and was galvanised by the vibrant, creative environment to start experimenting with new styles that took him away from the ordered, limpid, technically proficient practice he was used to.
What transpired was a new, bold approach that involved breaking down attitudes picked up at art school. His new works demonstrate an attempt to pave a middle way between the abstract and the figurative that embraces the exciting accidents of chaos and experimentation.
