Auction: Phillips’ Modern and Contemporary Art Evening Sale

Highlights of the auction include Yoshitomo Nara’s “Pinky,” created in 2000, which embodies the artist’s transformative breakthrough upon returning to Japan after 12 years in Germany. This piece is one of the few that features a distinctive head-and-shoulders composition. Another featured is American artist Tom Wesselmann’s “Smoker #17,” created in 1975 as part of his Smoker series that began in 1967. The depiction of a lit cigarette and swirling smoke evokes both cinematic allure and psychological intensity. Also, Loie Hollowell’s “Hung (down)” from 2016 showcases the artist’s unique fusion of geometric abstraction and corporeal symbolism.

Phillips’ Modern and Contemporary Art Evening Sale will take place on 27 September at 19:00, followed by the Day Sale on 28 September which starts at 14:00.
