Physical Theatre Meets Ancient Mythology

Why We Recommend it
Théâtre de la Feuille concludes its epic adaptation of the ancient Chinese text with a multilingual physical theatre piece blending Eastern and Western performance traditions to explore creation myths and environmental themes.
Description
The Fate of Mountains and Rivers brings the finale to Théâtre de la Feuille’s ambitious exploration of the classic Book of Mountains and Seas. Following Prince Dan Zhu’s journey to revive a dying mountain, this concluding chapter sees him venture across land and sea with the mystical text as his guide, aided by mythical creatures yet entangled in ancient conspiracies involving shamans and awakened evil spirits.
Directed by Ata Wong Chun-Tat, the production uses physical expression, live music and poetic text to create an immersive experience that questions our relationship with nature. Performed in multiple languages including Cantonese, Mandarin, English, Italian and Sanskrit with Chinese and English subtitles, the work transforms ancient creation stories into contemporary reflections on environmental stewardship. The company’s signature approach merges Eastern and Western theatrical traditions, bringing the fantastical world of pre-Qin China to life through movement, music and visual storytelling.
