Star Pianist Colleen Lee Plays an All-Bach Programme

Why We Recommend it
Homegrown star pianist Colleen Lee plays a daunting programme of five Bach concertos straight, accompanied by NHKP Baroque Chamber Orchestra.
Description
Colleen Lee’s credentials are beyond dispute. The first Hongkonger to ever reach the finals of International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition, back in 2005, Lee went on to record an album of Scarlatti’s complete piano sonatas for Naxos, and perform with the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) under the baton of legendary composer Sir Simon Rattle. Closer to home, she was appointed artist associate of Hong Kong Sinfonietta in the 2010/11 — a role more recently taken by jazz whizz Daniel Chu — and featured on HKS’ This is Classical Music 3 primer CD.
However, only the bravest soloist would attempt a whole orchestral programme of a single composer. And only the most ardent expert would devote an entire evening to the composer who did most to define the capacities of the keyboard — J.S. Bach.
Yet this is the Everest of Baroque peaks Lee will be ascend when she collaborates with NHKP Baroque Chamber Orchestra to perform five of Bach’s keyboard concertos in a headline concert at Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall. The earliest piece may be the most famous, familiar, and ferocious — Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 in G major.
The concert commences at 20:00.
