Japan’s Spiritual Landscapes: Photos by Kenna and Ogawa

Why We Recommend it
Blue Lotus’ Pilgrimage pairs Michael Kenna’s serene black-and-white landscapes with Yasuhiro Ogawa’s emotive imagery, offering a profound visual exploration of Japan’s spiritual heritage.
Description
From 6 June to 13 July, Pilgrimage showcases the works of Michael Kenna and Yasuhiro Ogawa, two master photographers united by their exploration of Japan’s sacred landscapes and spiritual traditions. Captured over more than four decades, Kenna’s minimalist, meditative black-and-white photographs capture stillness and timelessness on the ancient pilgrimage routes and shrines. In contrast, Ogawa’s richly textured and emotive images explore iconic motifs through varied textures and tones, offering a deeply personal and poetic perspective.
Together, the works create a compelling dialogue between both artists, blending silence and presence, traditional landscapes and introspection. The exhibition also features Japanese antique objects that complement the theme, making Pilgrimage a contemplative journey through time, memory and spiritual connection.
Complementing the exhibition, there will be a guided tour linking both artists’ works.
