Description
The HKDI Gallery is working with Austria-based institute Ars Electronica to showcase new media artworks that have participated in its competition Prix Ars Electronica. Titled Pluriversal Futures, the exhibition has selected works from the 2024 and 2025 competition entries, which cohere into diverse reinterpretations of the pluriversality of our futures.
One participating artist is Lau Wai from Hong Kong, who won an Award of Distinction in 2025. Her short film The Cast of the Invisible works with CGI to enquire the gap and difference between the real and the virtual, questioning what it means to be a human and what it means to be its copy.

Norwegian artists Thomas Kvam and Frode Oldereid won the highest prize in the New Animation Art category in 2025, combining robotics and audiovisual work to examine the myth of human progress and morality. Berlin-based Brazilian artist Gabriel Massan built a single-player exploring Black Brazilian experience and decolonial practice, winning an Award of Distinction in 2024, among others.
