Poetics Policy: How Humans and Machines Think

Why We Recommend it
Poetics Policy at the newly opened de Sarthe presents a series of works by Lazarus Chan, exploring the connections and tensions between how humans and machines interpret and respond to the world.
Description
Using the theme of policy in machine learning, new media artist Lazarus Chan’s installations in Poetics Policy present an imagination of life alongside machines. Policy refers to the decision-making function employed by a trained AI model, comparable to neural pathways developed through experience. Through works like “Scripting me 24,” a AI-generated reimagining of the Yellow Calendar (Tung Shing), Chan explores the connections and tensions between how humans and machines interpret and respond to the world.
Poetics Policy is one of the exhibitions inaugurating de Sarthe Hong Kong, which recently opened on 20 September. The gallery is also hosting 20th Century Narratives – In Conversation, a group exhibition showcasing post-war and modern paintings and sculptures.
