Talk and Tour: Inside Bishop’s House in Central

Why We Recommend it
Explore Bishop’s House with a rare archive tour and talk on Anglicanism, colonial legacy and church history in Hong Kong.
Description
By invitation of the Archbishop of Hong Kong, this special event opens the doors to Bishop’s House. Opened in 1848 in Central, it is one of the city’s oldest surviving Western-style buildings. On 13 June, Philip Wickeri will hold a tour of the house and archives; while Martyn Percy will deliver a talk based on his recent book on the crisis of colonial Anglicanism. The presentation addresses complex historical and contemporary themes — specifically focusing on slavery, reparations, the church and its evolving role within the Commonwealth.
Wickeri is advisor to the Archbishop, professor of church history at Ming Hua Theological College, Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Archivist and a globally recognised authority on Chinese church history. Percy, meanwhile, is honorary provost-theologian at Ming Hua Theological College, an academic and campaigner for justice, equality, LGBTQ rights and women clergy.
Taking place on 13 June 2026, the tour begins at 15:00 in the Banquet Room. The talk follows at 16:00. Cream tea and refreshments will be provided, and seats are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
