From Smartphone Glass to Magical Artwork: Red’s Aurora
Why We Recommend it
Rising art star Red captures the magic of the Northern Lights in a mesmerising, colour-shifting installation made from 2000 pieces of recycled smartphone glass.
Renowned for ‘painting without paint’ and her use of unconventional materials, Malaysian artist Hong Yi—better known under the moniker ‘Red’—brings an inventive art installation in collaboration with HONOR to Hong Kong.
Her artwork, entitled ‘Aurora’, is entirely made from 15-layered glass smartphone backs. The layers of nano-scale membranes found within the material reflect and refract light, causing tones ranging from blue to purple to appear.
Red is hailed one of the world’s top art entrepreneurs and celebrated for turning everyday materials into masterpieces. She has been featured by Wall Street Journal, TIME and New York Times.
