In 1998, when the renowned late Japanese musician Ryuichi Sakamoto visited Hong Kong, photographer Rensis Ho captured unique portraits of him — sometimes gazing directly into the camera and at other times lying on the ground.
For the first time in 27 years, these impromptu, spiritual gesture photos are fully exhibited at DEVEDO. 間まMA: Ryuichi by Rensis reflects Sakamoto’s unique charisma and the profound meaning conveyed by his photographs. Ho’s works feature minimalist backgrounds that highlight the late musician demeanour and expressions. The photographs, printed on Japanese awagami washi paper, resonate with the late virtuoso’s calm and Zen spirit.
