Sang Jijia’s INterstices Reimagines Space and Movement

Why We Recommend it
Choreographed by Sang Jijia, INterstices explores the intersection of body, space and perception through multimedia dance at the 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival.
Description
In INterstices, City Contemporary Dance Company (CCDC) artistic director Sang Jijia constructs a world where body, space and multimedia converge. Premiering at the 54th Hong Kong Arts Festival, the production transforms the stage into a fluid, ever-shifting realm of movement and imagery. Dancers navigate installations by lighting and stage designer Lawmanray and projections by Oliver Shing, accompanied by composer Dickson Dee’s experimental soundscapes, yielding a poetic meditation on perception and presence.
An award-winning artist from Gansu, Sang studied at the Beijing Central University for Nationalities and began his career with the Guangdong Modern Dance Company before joining CCDC as a dancer from 1999 to 2002. A protégé of William Forsythe to study choreography in Germany in 2002, he has created acclaimed works such as As If To Nothing and Not Here, Not Ever for major international companies like Carte Blanche. His recent choreographies with CCDC include Mr Blank, Re-mark, Pa | Ethos, Meeting In-between Time, Stream of Dust and As if Snowing, spanning 2015 to 2024.
