Screening silent fantasy film ‘Die Nibelungen’ to live performance of Wagner’s ‘Götterdammerung’
Why We Recommend it
A screening of Fritz Lang’s silent masterwork The Nibelungs – Part II. Kriemhild’s Revenge will be accompanied by a live performance of Richard Wagner’s bombastic music-drama Götterdammerung.
Regarded one of the greatest artistic achievements of German silent cinema, Fritz Lang’s The Nibelungs (1924) is a dramatic retelling of the Nordic legend that served as the basis for Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen.
Wagner and Lang’s masterworks will meet in this unique cinema experience presented by Goethe-Institut Hongkong and UA Cinehub. The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra will perform Götterdammerung, the last part of Richard Wagner’s Ring cycle, to the second instalment of Lang’s great Nordic mythological saga.
The movie will be screened with both its original German and English subtitles and English.
