Sara Tse at CHAT, From Seed to Textile

Why We Recommend it
Experience how art, memory and nature can reconnect communities as everyday plants and shared histories are transformed into collaborative textile and ceramic works in an open studio setting with artist Sara Tse.
Description
Seed to Textile 2025: Sara Tse Open Studio is CHAT’s flagship community programme, bringing together artists, alumni and the public to explore the deep connections between nature, textiles and collective memory. Hong Kong artist Sara Tse leads a journey rooted in her research on Kwai Chung Public School – her now-demolished alma mater rich in shared stories and botanical heritage. With “Seeders,” a group of former students and community participants, she revives plants that once thrived at the school, cultivating them at The Mills’ rooftop farm and a village school site.
The harvested plants become natural dyes and fibres for a series of collaborative workshops, including ceramic making, textile dyeing, cyanotype photography and branch weaving. These co-creations turn personal and community histories into tangible artworks, embedding them in daily objects and shared practices. By empowering participants to collect oral histories and create together, Seed to Textile 2025 makes visible the overlooked links between people, landscape and tradition.
