Sin Wai Kin’s Cinematic Odyssey in Video Art

Why We Recommend it

Blindspot Gallery presents Sin Wai-kin’s second solo exhibition, The Time of Our Lives, featuring the artist’s latest video art that challenges binary perceptions of time and identity through speculative fiction.

Description

Sin Wai-kin’s The Time of Our Lives at Blindspot Gallery marks the final stop of a touring solo exhibition that has garnered significant attention in Stockholm and will soon be seen in Trondheim and New York. This showcase of video art presents a cinematic multiverse where recurring characters, played by the artist, navigate a world of science fiction, metaphysics, and drag performance. Works include “The Time of Our Lives,” “The Fortress,” and “Asleep,” alongside face wipes imprinted with the make-up of Sin’s characters.

Sin’s practice disrupts dichotomous perceptions of time, objectivity, and identity by employing speculative fiction and fantasy world-building. The exhibition prompts reflection on how reality is constructed from pre-existing narratives and reified constructs.

During the opening reception, Sin Wai Kin will engage in an artist talk with John Tain, curator of the 2024 Lahore Biennale, offering insights into their creative process. This conversation will explore how Sin’s use of speculative fiction challenges traditional notions of time and identity, and how storytelling can shape our understanding of reality. The talk will be conducted in English and is scheduled for 22 March 2025, from 4:30 to 5:30 pm at Blindspot Gallery.
