Song Dong Marks 25 Years of Asia Art Archive

Why We Recommend it
Contemporary artist Song Dong’s 600 Marks reflects on 25 years of Asia Art Archive and imagines future creative possibilities through interactive art.
Description
600 Marks is an interactive artistic intervention by acclaimed contemporary artist Song Dong that reflects on Asia Art Archive’s 25-year history to consider how archives shape our collective future. Drawing from the archive’s materials and inspired by the twenty-four solar terms from traditional Chinese culture, the project transforms archival engagement into a participatory act — inviting the public to explore intersections between memory, sociopolitical history and artistic practice. It underscores the archive not as a static repository but as a living, evolving space of dialogue and imagination.
Working across performance, installation, video and calligraphy, Song has built an international reputation for exploring the relationship between the personal and the universal. Known for his poetic use of everyday materials, his work has been shown at major institutions such as The Museum of Modern Art and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Art Gallery of Ontario and UCCA Beijing, as well as in leading biennales from Venice and São Paulo to Gwangju and Istanbul — each reflecting on time, memory and the small gestures that compose collective history.
