Reviving Ancient Chinese Music: ‘Sound of Nanguan’ Salon Concert
Why We Recommend it
In this intimate concert, musician Wong Chi Ching will play the pipa, a four-stringed traditional Chinese musical instrument, to play Nanguan music.
Notoriously known by music scholars as the “living fossil” of traditional Chinese music, Nanguan (南管) is a type of Chinese opera that originated in the southern Chinese province of Fujian. It was then introduced into, and popularised by, Taiwan in the Ming Dynasty.
This evening concert, entitled Sound of Nanguan (「南管清韻」), features a pipa performances by music director and renowned pipa player Wong Chi Ching. Through her performance and interaction with the audience, Wong hopes to cultivate a deep appreciation and understanding of Chinese music.
