Contemporary Art, Tours, Talks and More: South Island Art Day 2018

Why We Recommend it

This free event will see contemporary art exhibitions, installations and performances across the South Island Cultural District as a part of Art Central and Art Basel Hong Kong.

Description

Organised bi-annually by the South Island Cultural District (SICD) since 2014, this free, inclusive event is an opportunity for art lovers to discover the latest in Hong Kong’s thriving contemporary art scene in Wong Chuk Hang and Tin Wan.

From 10am until 2pm, 19 art spaces will open their doors to the public, giving visitors the
opportunity to attend exhibition openings, interact with local and international artists, and experience
contemporary art through installations and performances.

The installation and performance program will mainly take place outdoor on route to the participating art spaces in Wong Chuk Han, featuring installations from local and international artists. Performances include action painting at Art Statements by American-Parisian street artist JonOne and “Art Picketing and demonstration” by French artist Valery Grancher.

Additionally, an Art Talk program will be organised by the Art World Forum, which will take place at L’Hotel Island South. The theme of the talk is “The New Art World Dynasty” , and key topics include a new breed of art fairs, cryptocurrencies and millennials within an alternative age of building creative capital.

This special half-day edition of the South Island Art Day is organised in conjunction with Art Basel and Art Central. A free shuttle bus will be in operation, bringing guests from Wan Chai (Grand Hyatt) to Ovolo Southside and from Ovolo Southside to Tin Wan.
