Description

Gallery Exit hosts Dialectic of Landscapes: Stephen Wong Chun Hei “A New Reality,” celebrating the launch of Wong’s latest monograph. The publication documents Wong’s artistic journey, tracing his transition from early works examining humanity, nature, and digital imagery to recent plein air landscapes enriched with imaginative elements.

The event features a conversation between Wong and Roger Lee, senior lecturer at Saint Francis University and noted commentator on art, music, and literature. Together, they will discuss the evolving relationship between humans and the environment in Wong’s practice, as well as the philosophical questions raised by his distinctive worldview.

Born in Hong Kong in 1986 and a graduate of CUHK’s Fine Arts Department, Wong has become known for blending observation with invention, offering new perspectives on the landscape genre. Wong talked about his creative process and how he responded to travel restrictions during the pandemic in a recent interview, where he reflected on memory, reality, and imagination in his work.

Lee, author and host of RTHK’s “Philosophy Night,” brings a philosophical lens to the discussion, promising a thought-provoking dialogue on art and meaning.

The event will be conducted in Cantonese on 28 June at Gallery Exit, and invites audiences to engage with both the visual and conceptual dimensions of Wong’s work.
