Still be-Life: Seven Contemporary Approaches to Still Life

Why We Recommend it

Still be-Life continues Contemporary by Angela Li’s exploration of contemporary approaches to still life, offering seven stimulating takes on the genre by local artists.

Description

Contemporary by Angela Li presents Still be-Life, a group exhibition involving seven Hong Kong artists, curated by independent curator Shirky Chan. This exhibition follows Still a-Life, the gallery’s 2025 exhibition, which showcased six contemporary approaches to still-life art. Still be-Life continues this project, with each of the featured artists bringing their own interpretation of still-life, experimenting with how the stories of the subjects can be narrated.

For example, one of the artists featured is moving image artist Jess Lau, who brings an animation of staged flowers from diplomatic summit meetings. Seasoned artist Tsang Chui-mei follows her usual motif as she contemplates the temporality possessed and expressed by her still-life objects. Doris Ng, Natalie Ng, Lukas Tam, Annie Wan and Candyce Wong also take part in the exhibition.

The exhibition begins on 15 January, with an opening reception from 17:00 to 20:00 with the curator and six of the artists present. Click here to RSVP.
