Strangely Familiar: Dissolving Boundaries Through Dance

Why We Recommend it

Through contemporary dance, Strangely Familiar explores the meanings and possibilities of harmony across cultures, inviting the audience to experience and imagine a shared humanity.

Description

Co-commissioned by the Asia+ Festival and the Singapore International Festival of Arts, the contemporary dance performance Strangely Familiar explores the meaning of coexistence and harmony of different identities and realities across cultures. The idea of a shared humanity has taken hits in the contemporary chaos — the performance invites us to reconsider and experience again the possibilities of this strangely familiar ideal.

The work also features the virtual performance of Hong Kong dance artist Zelia ZZ Tan, who will join with the assistance of holographic projection, adding another layer to the work’s attempt at dissolving boundaries between locations and realms.

Strangely Familiar is directed by Kuik Swee Boon, founder and artistic director of the T.H.E. Dance Company (The Human Expression Dance Company). Kuik will be leading a dance workshop also at East Kowloon Cultural Centre in the morning of 30 November, the final day of performance. Tickets for the workshop can be purchased here.
