Victoria Prison F Hall: The Search for a Real Home

Why We Recommend it
A new heritage exhibition at Tai Kwun’s F Hall reveals untold stories of Vietnamese boat people and migrants through rare photos and a powerful mural designed by artist Eric Okdeh.
Description
Tai Kwun’s Finding a Place to Call Home explores a pivotal chapter in Victoria Prison’s history, when F Hall became a detention centre for Vietnamese boat people and migrants. Rare photographs and personal accounts illuminate perilous journeys, rooftop protests and the search for belonging. The exhibition gives voice to those who passed through its gates, highlighting both struggle and resilience.
Muralist Eric Okdeh’s “Resilience” anchors the exhibition, born from workshops and interviews with former refugees, migrants, prison staff and rescue officers. His community-driven approach transforms personal stories into a universal message of hope and peace. With over 150 public art commissions worldwide in countries like Jordan and Spain, Okdeh is known for tackling tough social issues through inclusive, collaborative projects. His work here weaves together diverse voices, making the exhibition a moving testament to the human quest for home.
