Wayne McGregor’s 3D VR Dance Spectacle, Starring Hong Kong Ballet

Why We Recommend it
Choreographer Wayne McGregor’s On the Other Earth transforms dance into an interactive installation exploring perception, embodiment and the void.
Description
Presented at Tai Kwun, On the Other Earth marks the Asian debut of choreographer Wayne McGregor’s immersive installation, following acclaimed runs in Venice and London. Co-produced with Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong Ballet and Studio Wayne McGregor, the work unfolds within a 360-degree 3D LED environment, where dance, moving image and spatial sound converge.
Audiences are surrounded by hyperreal dancers — performed by Company Wayne McGregor and Hong Kong Ballet — whose shifting physical languages respond to an evolving digital landscape. Developed with visual artists including Ravi Deepres and Jeffrey Shaw, the project reimagines choreography beyond the stage, situating the viewer inside a post-cinematic field. Both sensory and contemplative, the 57-minute experience reflects on perception, mortality and the human relationship to the void, offering a quietly disorienting vision of performance’s possible futures.
