‘Taxi Stories’ and ‘Small Talk’: Independent film screenings

Why We Recommend it

Independently Yours, Hong Kong Arts Centre’s recurrent indie film screening program, will screen two contemporary art movies, Taxi Stories and Small Talk.

Description

Taxi Stories (Hong Kong, Indonesia, China, Netherlands, 2017) is a mosaic film set in three different Asian cities in which the paths of the rich and poor cross in and around taxis. A closeted Beijing taxi driver tries to seduce a rich passenger, a pregnant Hong Kong trophy wife starts to develop feelings for her new Indonesian maid and a Jakarta slum orphan becomes infatuated with a female backpacker from the west.

Small Talk (Taiwan, 2016) is an intimate documentary featuring director Huang Hui-chen and her estranged mother, a lesbian Taoist priestess, with whom she is living together. In this film, the two set off together on a challenging and painful journey into the past.
