That Little Thing Called Love: Classic Cinema to Celebrate Chinese Valentine’s Day

Why We Recommend it
In honour of the Lantern Festival, the Hong Kong Film Archive will screen six classic Cantonese comedies centered around love in all its forms over the course of eight weeks.
Description
For the Lantern Festival, also known as Chinese Valentine’s Day, which falls on March 2 this year, the Hong Kong Film Archive will screen a selection of Hong Kong films about about love in its bittersweet and endearing forms.
All six films that will be screened feature actresses and their real-life filmmaker/actor husbands, and prove that even though the films might be old, the themes they foreground—awkward first dates, feuding families, class divides, (un)welcome temptation—are still relevant as ever.
The films that will be screened are as follows: The Judge Goes to Pieces (1948), The Newlyweds (1953), Battle of the Sexes (1959), Dear Love (1959), The Diary of a Husband, Part Two (1964), and Miracle in Chasing (1969).
Please note that all films are in Cantonese and will be shown without subtitles.
