Presented by Chung Ying Theatre Company, The Insane Asylum Next to Heaven is a brand-new Cantonese adaptation of Yu Rongjun’s 2001 work that explores the complexities of modern society and human nature.
Set in an asylum, the play features four characters — A, B, C, and D — who are deemed “mad” by societal standards. Within their fantastical world, they enact a variety of absurd stories, from an anxious high school student overwhelmed by exams to a deceitful lawyer, revealing the loneliness and fragility of human nature behind the laughter.
The show takes place from 22 to 31 August at the Hong Kong City Hall Theatre and will be performed in Cantonese.
