The Mindbending, Gaming-inspired New Media Art of Hui Wai-Keung

Why We Recommend it

This exhibition showcases the works of awardwinning new media artist Hui Wai-Keung, who focuses on software, game and generative art.

Description

Hong Kong-born and raised digital media artist Hui Wai-Keung’s recent works focus on exploring the alternative possibilities of art, with a view to expanding the horizon of human concepts and experience while treasuring traditional aesthetic values.

Since his participation in an artist residency programme in Dortmund in 2011, Hui’s artworks are deeply influenced by German art and culture. His award-winning work Re-Dürer, which will be shown at the exhibition, is a rework of three well-known engravings by German Renaissance artist Albrecht Dürer. For this work, Hui hacked a computer game in order to generate graphics and present them in a three-channel video installation.

‘Anywhere Out of the World’ also showcases his latest artworks, including Synchronize @ Rock, Anywhere Out of the World, Caught Naked in Silence of Hyperspace, and Programming the Nature, which all illustrate the artist’s visual study in fourth dimension geometry and his uncertainty towards the relationship between mankind and nature.
