Why We Recommend it
The Original Story features prominent Indonesian artist Yunizar’s works, which carry his signature abstract style with a focus on texture that invites viewers to reach out for a feel.
The Original Story is a solo exhibition by prominent Indonesian artist, Yunizar, at Sin Sin Fine Art. Yunizar was one of the first Indonesian artists Ms. Sin Sin Man encountered since the founding period of her art gallery.
Born in Talawi, West Sumatra, Indonesia in 1971, Yunizar graduated in 1999 with a degree in Fine Arts from Indonesian Institute for the Arts, Yogyakarta and is known for seeking beauty in what others might see as trivial.
Drawing from a rich heritage to create images that evoke memories of dreams and myths as well as the mundane, his paintings carry his signature abstract style with a focus on texture that invites the viewer to reach out for a feel. Working primarily in acrylic and pencil, he artfully builds volume with his brushwork and sets forth impressions through contrast and lines, forms and colours.
Yunizar is a leading member of the Jendela group, Indonesia’s most iconic contemporary art collective and has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Indonesia, Hong Kong, Singapore and London. Along with private collections and museums, Yunizar’s paintings can be found at the Singapore Art Museum and National University of Singapore Museum.
