Description
American ballet dancer, choreographer and director John Neumeier (b. 1939) has been at the helm of the Hamburg Ballet since 1973, making him one of the world’s longest serving artistic directors.
Neumeier has produced more than one hundred and fifty ballets, and has led the company to more than three hundred tours on five continents and is the recipient of innumerable awards and distinctions all over the world.
The World of John Neumeier marks the Hamburg Ballet’s fourth visit to the Festival. Narrated by Neumeier, the ballet gala features excerpts from some of his greatest works, including adaptations from literary works such as Lady of the Camellias, Death in Venice and Peer Gynt. Other highlights are symphonic ballets set to Bach and Mahler music, and Nijinsky–Neumeier’s tribute to the most famous male ballet dancer of the early 20th century.
