TOML: A Cross-cultural Look at Beauty Through Dance

Why We Recommend it
SOL Dance Company from Israel collaborates with City Contemporary Dance Company in their latest dance production TOML—Time Of My Life—to examine different cultures’ obsession with external beauty and the ability to laugh at themselves cynically.
Description
This Hong Kong premiere is inspired by CCDC’s previous work, DU-K, which dealt with the subject of coexistence, which was a collaboration between SOL Dance Company and BJ9CDT from Beijing. During the rehearsals for TOML, the creative team began delving into deeper questions about the differences between the two cultures as the theme intensified. This led to a collaborative evolution, until they arrived at a work that had been completely transformed into another unique form. The resulting dance is an exploration of the ideas of self-sacrifice, love, giving, lightness, fear, disappointment, the ego, identity and others.
TOML features music that spans genres, including pieces by American indie folk band Bon Iver, American country rock singer Jennifer Warnes, Russian Romantic period composer Tchaikovsky, Australian multi-instrumentalist Adrian Klumpes, and many more.
Please note that TOML has been rescheduled from 8pm to 7:15pm.
