Vhils and Pauline Foessel Curate ‘Alter Ego’ in Macau

Why We Recommend it

Curated by Portuguese artist Alexandre Farto, better known as Vhils, and Pauline Foessel, this is an expansive event bringing together works from 27 artists, shown in six exhibits across Macau.

Description

Tied to the theme of “alter ego” the six exhibits across Macau aim to elicit dialogue between artists, among audiences and across borders. The link drawing artists together is that of Portuguese-speaking countries operating in dialogue with artists from China, Hong Kong, and Macau – a very broad spectrum offering the potential for myriad conversations.

The project is the brainchild of two influential art personas, Artist Vhils and curator Pauline Foessel, who have for some time worked together on various projects, with Foessel previously managing Vhil’s studio during her time in Hong Kong, among other engagements.

Portuguese urban artist Vhils has strong ties to Hong Kong, where he continues to have a studio and where he draws much inspiration in his work navigating the waters of local and global identity.

Among the artists featured are Fidel Évora (Cape Verde), Add Fuel (Portugal), Guilherme Gafi (Brazil), Ricardo Gritto (Portugal), Ann Hoi (Macao),  Kiluanji Kia Henda (Angola), Yiu Chi Leung (Hong Kong), Li Hongbo (China), João Ó & Rita Machado (Portugal), Mauro Pinto (Mozambique), Wasted Rita (Portugal), Xisto Soares (East Timor), Herberto Smith (São Tomé and Príncipe), Wing Shya (Hong Kong),, Zhang Dali (China)
