Celebrate Summer with Vivid Japanese Glass Art

Why We Recommend it

Voyage of Light III merges Western glass artistry with traditional Japanese aesthetics to forge a distinctive realm of glass art.

Description

Voyage of Light III, a glass art group exhibition, celebrates the arrival of summer with vivid, colourful glass artworks. Set in Tai Kwun’s Touch Ceramics, the exhibit showcases Western glass artistry combined with traditional Japanese aesthetics to create a distinctive visual style.

Featured is Toshiyasu Nakamura’s glasswork, known for his self-taught interpretation of kiriko, a Japanese glass-cutting method originating from the Edo period. His finesse with fine glass allows his works to radiate transparency and brilliance.

The exhibition also highlights emerging artists such as Tsukasa Nakahara, who captures slices of the ocean using laminated glass sheets, Koichi Matsufuji, who specialises in fluorescent uranium glass, Yoshiko Minagawa and Shieri Hoki. These skilled craftspeople employ various glass cutting and blowing techniques to create a harmonious blend of traditional methods in architecture, adornments, and utilitarian objects that resonate with the daily lives of the local community.
