WestK Cabaret Nights: A Hong Kong Flavour

Why We Recommend it
This March, WestK Cabaret Nights returns with Hong Kong-style performances blending music and theatre — featuring Jim Hui, Margaret Cheung, Crisel Consunji and Alex Lam.
Description
From 9 to 12 March, WestK Performing Arts’ WestK Cabaret Nights transforms Xiqu Centre into an intimate showcase for Hong Kong’s creative voices, blending music and theatre in distinctly local style. The season will feature a diverse lineup of four distinctive artists at the Teahouse Theatre.
On 9 March, actor and playwright Jim Hui, known for his 40-year theatre career, will turn to his signature grey humour — absurd, biting and tender — to deliver his new solo stand-up Tickling Myself. Revisiting 12 years of hopes, failures and backstage realities, he pokes at the gap between ideals and survival, scratching where the itch of being an actor never quite goes away.
On 10 March, musical theatre stalwart Margaret Cheung will present Technicolor Dreams, reimagining the golden age of film musicals through bold jazz arrangements with veteran pianist and music director Joyce Cheung — drawing from the songbooks of renowned composers George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Henry Mancini and Irving Berlin.
Then, on 11 March, 2019 Hong Kong Film Awards-winning actress and vocalist Crisel Consunji will stage I’d Like to Teach the World, blending classical, musical theatre, pop and global songs. Through communal singing and storytelling, she creates an open space for audiences to listen, reflect and join in—rediscovering music’s power to shape how we see ourselves and the world.
Actor and singer Alex Lam, son of legendary George Lam, traces his family musical legacy in a cabaret inspired by his 2025 single Cassette Love, written for his newborn daughter. Like her, Alex entered music early — featured on his father’s 1986 album as a one-year-old. On 12 March, he will perform originals and reimagined Cantonese classics with the Aim High Music Foundation Youth Chorus.
