Humans or Gods? A Game-Performance at WestK Is in Our Hands

Why We Recommend it

When the World Is Your Enemy – Epic Edition is an immersive, participant-driven game-theatre work where “humans” build civilisations while “gods” steer fate via a live web app.

Description

Humans or gods? The choice is yours — and the fate of a world rests in your hands.

After its March 2026 premiere, When the World Is Your Enemy returns as an upgraded Epic Edition on a larger stage, blending tabletop strategy with live performance. Participants choose to play as Humans — competing for land and resources to forge civilisations through conquest or cooperation — or as Gods, three teams of behind‑the‑scenes masterminds who trigger world events and allocate resources via a newly designed web app.

Produced by WestK Performing Arts and cross‑media artist Jing Wong and his team, the participatory performance unfolds in an immersive shared space shaped by storytelling, projections and real‑time game mechanics. Drawing inspiration from ancient mythologies, this WestK Creator Series production puts even more control in players’ hands, ensuring no two games end the same way. To further promote this upgraded version, Wong has released a new music track of the same name, When the World is Your Enemy.

Wong is a transmedia storyteller, game designer and director completing a doctorate in interactive storytelling and game theatre at City University Hong Kong’s School of Creative Media. He has performed at Clockenflap, OzAsia and Zandari Festa, composed for film and TV, and created game‑theatre works including A Joyful Christmas on Doughnut Island.

The performances will be divided into two time slots: 26, 27 September and 3, 4 October will be held at 15:00, while 25, 29 and 30 September and 2 October will start at 19:30. All showings will last approximately three hours without intermission.
