Why We Recommend it

Description

Alan Chan (b. 1950) is a Hong Kong-born and based self-taught graphic design and branding maven, as well as an avid collector.

Chan’s prolific oeuvre ranges from graphic art, photography, objects and video installations. They reflect his strong, personal perspectives on popular and consumer culture, identity, as well as the co-existence of tradition and modernity in contemporary cultural contexts.

WHO IS ALAN CHAN?…a journey of art since the 1960s depicts the quintessence of Chan’s journey of art and design, featuring both new works and drawings he made during his teenage years, which are shown to the public for the first time.

Exhibition highlights include his early graphic artwork First Dream (1970, pictured), which reflects influences from pop culture and A Brand New Game (2006), a series that explores the paradox of the rivalry and shared marketing visions between big brands in consumer markets.
