Wing Po-so Reveals Voices of Nature and Materials

Why We Recommend it

Blindspot Gallery’s Polyglot draws nourishment from Wing Po-so’s formative encounters with Chinese medicine, marked by a meticulous observation of nature and its interconnectivity.

Description

In Polyglot, local artist Wing Po-so explores the idea of material as language, inviting viewers to experience how materials communicate through grain, fibre, residue, tension and transformation. Drawing from her formative years in Chinese medicine, So’s works reveal the hidden patterns and forces humming beneath everyday life.

The titular piece, “Polyglot: Mulberry” (2023), assembles archaic Chinese medicinal jars filled with powders, branches and roots. These substances come from the mulberry tree, known in Chinese medicine for the curative remedies that can be extracted from its various parts. Another highlight, “Magnolia Bud” (2025), captures the subtle vitality of spring through a seemingly vibrating, furry form made from magnolia bud hairs, blurring the line between animal and plant. Together, these works embody the cyclical, regenerative qualities of nature and the fluidity of material languages.
