World Cultures Festival: Hotel Pro Forma Charts The NeoArctic

Why We Recommend it

With the dawn of the Anthropocene, NeoArctic charts this large and inconceivably complex subject via aesthetical and musical mixed forms.

Description

Awarded the Danish 2017 Reumert Prize for Best Performance Art Work, NeoArctic is described to have “a sense of magic that Hotel Pro Forma can conjure up like no other theatre. Mercilessly beautiful.” The opera-theatre production features 12 songs, 12 soundscapes, 12 landscapes and our only Planet; a collaboration between Danish performance art group Hotel Pro Form and the Latvian Radio Choir.

This highly original performance charts the “NeoArctic”, a crazy new world shaped by man. Blending heavenly and apocalyptic sounds with poignant lyrics by Sjón (Björk’s lyricist), spine-tingling reverberation, stunning costumes, and video images, the visual-music journey stirringly addresses the vast climatic changes underway — and calls our much needed attention to what is at stake.
