Xavier Cha’s ‘Ruthless Logic’ and Jes Fan’s ‘Mother is a Woman’ on Show at Pioneering Art Space Empty Gallery

Why We Recommend it
This two-pronged show features a martial arts moving image work on the upper floor of the black box space, while the lower floor plays host to an installation piece drawing on themes of gender, body modification and applied science.
Description
Dedicated to blurring the boundaries between contemporary art, film and experimental music, Empty Gallery is Hong Kong’s only space that plunges visitors into pitch black environs while showcasing works of emerging and established artists.
Xavier Cha’s Ruthless Logic (pictured) is a dance-like deconstruction of stylistic tropes found in Martial Arts sequences, produced in Hong Kong’s famous Shaw Studios by the NYC-based artist.
Hong-Kong born, NYC-based artist Jes Fan’s installation Mother is a Woman involves transforming the entire floor into flesh-toned, fur-carpeted chambers replete with curious bio-morphic sculptures that explore themes of transgender politics.
