Yekwon Sunwoo and Quatuor Elmire: A Cross-Cultural Resonance

Why We Recommend it
Pianist Yekwon Sunwoo and Quatuor Elmire meet in a dazzling chamber programme shaped by virtuosity and cultural exchange.
Description
As part of Le French May 2026, prominent pianist Yekwon Sunwoo joins Quatuor Elmire in Hong Kong for a chamber programme that merges musical traditions. Framed as a cross-cultural dialogue, the performance balances virtuosity with close listening, moving between expansive textures and intimate interplay.
The first Korean Van Cliburn gold medallist, Sunwoo is known for his technical command and searching musicality, with appearances at major venues including Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall and Hong Kong Arts Festival. The Quatuor Elmire, formed in 2017, has quickly gained international recognition, earning top prizes in Geneva and Copenhagen and received the Musical Revelation of the Year award from the French Critics Union during the 2024-25 season. Their work combines clarity, structural insight and a distinctly European chamber tradition.
The performance begins at 20:00 and runs approximately 1 hour 20 minutes, including a 15-minute intermission.
