Inside Zhang Peili’s Video Installation at Tai Kwun

Why We Recommend it
Zhang Peili: A Day transforms the historic F Hall Studio at Tai Kwun with a new eight-channel video work with a focus on the notions of illness and the body, as well as temporality.
Description
As the third instalment in Tai Kwun’s DigiRadiance series, Zhang Peili: A Day presents a specially commissioned eight-channel video work featuring real-life footage at the historic F Hall Studio.
Curated by associate curator Shuman Wang, the solo exhibition looks back on Zhang’s creative career that spans over 40 years. For example, the work “A Day” combines first-person footage, found materials and data-generated images. Through aimless scenes that recur as flashbacks and create a disorienting sense of time and space, the multimedia piece guides audiences through everyday public and private realms, prompting reflection on bodily impairment and the limits of life.
The show will also feature a conversation between Zhang, Wang and Pi Li, head of art at Tai Kwun. Exploring his newly commissioned work and media art practice, DigiRadiance: Conversation with Zhang Peili will take place on 20 January at F Hall Studio from 18:00 to 19:00, with free admission.
