Zheng Jing: Exploring Spatial Ecology and Poetics

Why We Recommend it
Celebrated artist Zheng Jing constructs different ecologies using non-solid elemental media at Oi!, reimagining and recontextualising familiar Hong Kong spaces.
Description
The newest Oi! Spotlight includes a solo exhibition by celebrated Chinese artist Zheng Jing. A master of multi-disciplinary art, Zheng constructs different ecologies using non-solid elemental media, such as water, sound, air and light. In developing such ecologies, the artist scanned different public spaces in Hong Kong and recorded their sounds, then went on to reconstruct them in various spaces at Oi!.
Zheng presents a new entry of his Echoes of Time and Space series in Oi! Warehouse 1, reimagining the warehouse as the underwater world of Victoria Harbour, recontextualised with unique sounds of various Hong Kong spaces. Through his innovative installations, sculptures and videos, Zheng creates a multi-sensory experience challenging the audience’s preconceptions about public space and the environment.
Zheng is currently a professor at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou, with extensive experience in contemporary public art creation. His works revolve around experimenting with and transforming media to explore broader ecological themes.
