Zoran Mušič’s European Modernism at Axel Vervoordt Gallery

Why We Recommend it
Axel Vervoordt Gallery hosts the work of Zoran Mušič in Hong Kong for the first time, featuring paintings from the 1960s to 1980s that reflect on trauma, memory and the human condition.
Description
Zoran Mušič, Solo Exhibition at Axel Vervoordt Gallery marks the Slovenian artist’s debut in Hong Kong, featuring paintings from his mature period between the 1960s and 1980s. Mušič’s experience at Dachau concentration camp heavily influenced his work, where he produced drawings documenting the horrors he witnessed.
After settling in Venice, he developed a distinctive style marked by muted palettes and minimal use of materials. His practice explores themes such as Dalmatian landscapes, figurative studies, and the We Are Not the Last series, reflecting on collective suffering and survival. The exhibition underscores his progression toward abstraction alongside existential concerns.
Coinciding with a retrospective in Gorizia on the 20th anniversary of his death, this exhibition offers Hong Kong audiences an opportunity to engage with an artist whose life and art address universal themes of resilience and transformation.
