Zolima Live: Experience Hong Kong neon first-hand!

For nine years, Zolima has dedicated its heart and soul to bringing you unique stories about Hong Kong’s culture, heritage and creative scene. Now we’re excited to share an opportunity to experience these very stories in real life. Get ready to immerse yourself in the enigmas of Hong Kong culture with our brand new initiative, Zolima Live.

Zolima Live goes beyond words and images, offering exclusive, in-depth and live experiences – exploring the hidden, forgotten, unknown depths of Hong Kong’s unique identity. We’re partnering with the city’s most influential organisations, artists and cultural guardians to bring these experiences to life.

As our first participants you will be invited you to share your insights on everything from price points and timings to the overall package. This will be instrumental in shaping unforgettable experiences for future participants.

You will have the opportunity to be a founding member of our first Zolima Live event: the Neon Experience. Join our guided walk, a workshop to make your own neon sign, or a combination of both.

We’re offering a special price during our beta testing period that runs until the autumn.

Here’s what to expect.

Guided walk in Wan Chai: We are collaborating with signboard heritage group StreetSignsHK and founders Ken Fung and Kevin Mak, who are championing the cause of preserving Hong Kong’s iconic neon heritage. Ken and Kevin will take you on a guided tour through the streets of Wan Chai to capture and tell you the stories of what is left of the neighbourhood’s neon signs.

Workshop:
Get a practical introduction to the craft of neon sign-making with artist and designer Jive Lau, founder of Kowloneon, which promotes neon sign culture. Jive shared his experience and personal journey in Anastasia Tsang’s movie, A Light Never Goes Out, and he recently designed the neon signs of the new G.O.D flagship store in Central. You’ll get a chance to learn the fundamental tube bending techniques under Jive’s supervision, letting you make and take home your very own piece of neon!

Why you should join: Learn from Ken and Kevin’s in-depth knowledge of the city’s indelible neon signs. Experience the joy of bending neon tubes and making your own piece to take home. Enjoy the opportunity to be one of Zolima Live’s founding members by providing valuable feedback that will directly influence our programme’s evolution. Your insights on everything from price points and timings to the overall package will be instrumental in shaping unforgettable experiences for future participants.

And how can we forget the most important benefit of joining Zolima Live? It’s the joy of sharing a unique experience together!
