Description
The Hong Kong Heritage Museum’s Buddhist Pilgrimage: Treasures from the Donation of The Tsui Art Foundation exhibition is an immersive exhibition featuring 70 remarkable Buddhist artefacts. Highlights include exquisite thangka paintings from the 17th to 20th centuries, gilt-bronze sculptures such as an Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva figure, ancient scriptures and ritual objects that reveal the refined artistic style of Tibetan Buddhism. These masterpieces not only showcase exceptional craftsmanship but also reflect centuries of cultural exchange and spiritual devotion.
Alongside the treasures, visitors can deepen their understanding through a multimedia display chronicling the legendary seventh-century Buddhist master Xuanzang’s pilgrimage and his role in fostering cross-cultural connections. The exhibition also offers a unique opportunity to explore Buddhism’s profound impact on Chinese language and culture.
The late, prominent businessman Tsui Tsin-Tong began collecting antiques during the 1970s. Around 20 years later, in the early 1990s, he founded the Tsui Art Foundation. Over time, he donated over 700 pieces from his private collection to the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, where they are now displayed at the T. T. Tsui Gallery of Chinese Art. The gallery showcases a diverse range of Chinese art and antiquities – including ceramics, pottery, sculptures and bronzes. These treasured works are displayed long-term, offering the public a unique opportunity to appreciate the rich heritage and craftsmanship of Chinese art.
